Yes, when heat is absorbed from the solution, q will be negative. In other words, the reaction absorbs heat from the solution and the reaction is endothermic. However, q for the reaction will be positive,

If the reaction releases heat and the surroundings warm, then the reaction is exothermic and negative.
If the reaction requires heat and the surroundings cool, then the reaction is endothermic and positive.

I do not think this is correct because if a reaction releases heat then q will be negative-the reaction is losing the energy. On the other hand, if a reaction requires heat then q will be positive because the reaction is gaining the energy.

when the reaction releases heat. the reaction is exothermic making it negative.

When heat is absorbed by the solution, q for the solution has a positive value
