Heat vs Q

When do you use change of heat and when do you use Q?

I thought q was the change in heat? Since we can only measure the flow?

If it asked for change in enthalpy you would solve for deltaH. If it is asking for heat occurring by the system or on the system solve for q.

The reaction quotient, Q, is calculated when you need to determine which direction a non-equilibrium reaction will proceed.

Q is the amount of heat transferred to a system. Delta H on the other hand is a thermodynamic potential. It is essentially the measure of potential energy within a system.

the change in energy of the system or delta U is equal to q+W. W is energy transferred to the system by work, while q is the energy transferred by heat.
