When we add or subtract, I know we are supposed to use the one with the least number of places after the decimal. But when we have two numbers without decimal points such as 524+340 would it be two sig figs because of 340 or would it be 864 because it still doesn't have an places after the decimal point?

I think when we add or subtract, it's dependent on the place of the number. So, since the last significant figure it in the tens place for 340, the answer would have the last significant in the tens place.

I agree with that. Significant figures for add and subtract only come from the decimal. If there is none there then when you calculate make sure ur answer has no decimal as well. It would not be correct to make it two sig figs because that would cut the number off in the hundreds place and that is not the same number as it should be
