Fusion = Melting?
Is fusion the same as melting? I am confused, are they synonyms of one another or antonyms?

Re: Fusion = Melting?
Yes fusion is the same as melting; it’s the phase change from a solid to a liquid

Re: Fusion = Melting?
Yes, fusion does mean melting and enthalpy is positive. For the other way, freezing, change in enthalpy is the same, but you change the sign and it becomes negative.

Re: Fusion = Melting?
Heat of fusion refers to melting or freezing. It is positive when melting and negative when freezing
Re: Fusion = Melting?
I believe fusion is actually a phase change between liquid and solid, which could mean either melting or freezing because those are both phase changes between liquids and solids (melting= solid -> liquid; freezing= liquid -> solid)
