change in entropy

Change in entropy must be smaller than zero, for the entropy to decrease? If so, why?

If delta S is less than zero, this means that the system is becoming more ordered through the process, thereby decreasing entropy.

In general, if the change in anything is less than 0, it indicates a decrease in this property. It's the same concept as for change in enthalpy, Gibbs free energy, temperature, etc.

delta S means the change in the disorder of a system. If a system gets more ordered, then the entropy change is positive

Because delta S is measures the change in disorder, a delta S value less than zero signifies a decrease in entropy for the whole system.

Delta S is the measure of the entropy of a system, this means that a negative value would mean that the system becomes more orderly as a result of that process.

entropy is a measure of disorder, so an entropy below 0 means the reaction proceeds in a manner that leads to more order

If deltaS is less than 0, then that means that the overall change in entropy is negative--implying a decrease in spontaneity
