Phase Change Diagrams
Do phase change diagrams show you the temperature of the molecule itself, or the temperature of the environment?

Re: Phase Change Diagrams
I believe that the phase change diagrams only show the temperature of the system being measured. While the energy supplied to change the temperature comes from the surroundings, it is measuring only the temperature of what is actually reacting.
Re: Phase Change Diagrams
I believe It can be interpreted as both. The molecules are heated because the heat of the environment increases as well.

Re: Phase Change Diagrams
I am not too sure which of these it is showing, but I just remember it as a phase change diagram measures the temperature of a particular substance at different phases. The heat is coming from somewhere but the diagram itself is not measuring the external heat but rather just the system as someone said above.

Phase change diagrams show you the amount of energy and temperature at which phase changes occur

Re: Phase Change Diagrams
According to chem.libretexts.org, it should focus on the temperature of the system:
"A phase diagram is a graphic summary of the physical state of a substance as a function of temperature and pressure in a closed system."

Re: Phase Change Diagrams
I'm pretty sure that the phase change diagrams show the temperature of the system and the amount of energy where the phase changes.

Re: Phase Change Diagrams
The temperature being measured is the temperature in the system that is being tested. The molecule's temperature is being measured as it goes through different phases.
