Internal Inergy

Postby Fayola Obasi 1F » Mon Feb 06, 2023 3:40 pm

Do we only calculate internal energy (delta U) when the system is closed or is it only when the system is isolated?

For an isolated system, the change in internal energy would be 0. This is different from a closed system. A closed system can still have transfer of energy, like if you heat a gas in a closed container.

You can calculate the internal energy for both. But for an isolated system, the internal energy won't change from what is given, since it can't transfer any energy.
