Question 8.55

Postby Jimmy Zhou 3D » Mon Jan 16, 2017 1:11 pm

So was wondering if the 2nd equation needed to be balanced cause in its current state it isn't and the problem isn't possible otherwise. Need guidance.

8.55 Barium metal is produced by the reaction of aluminum
metal with barium oxide. From the standard reaction
enthalpies,
2 Ba + O2 -> 2BaO delta H = -1107 kJ
2 Al + O2 -> Al2O31 delta H = -1676 kJ
calculate the reaction enthalpy for the production of metallic
barium in the reaction
3 BaO1s2 % 2 Al1s2 ¡ ¢ Al2O31s2 % 3 Ba1s2

I would also love an answer to this.

Let me format the question appropriately:

3BaO + 2Al --> Al2O3 + 3Ba
