Winter 2015 Midterm question 2and 3c
The question asks you to calculate the standard enthalpy of formation for HI(g). I calculated the standard enthalpy without HI and got 15.52, I then subtracted it from 84 KJ/mol, but the correct way was to subtract it from 42 KJ/mol. Why is it subtracted from 42 and not 84 KJ/mol?

In part B, 84 kJ/mol was the enthalpy of the reaction for 2 moles of H2O, so 42 kJ/mol is the standard enthalpy for 1 mole of H2O, which you would then use as the value of standard enthalpy in calculating the the standard enthalpy of formation of HI.

For the winter 2015 #8d I'm having trouble figuring out why the standard potential is 1.239? When I calculate it I get 0.124? I'm literally putting the same numbers as it says on the paper so how did 1.239 even come about?
