If the standard reaction enthalpy for a certain reaction is negative, does that mean that energy leaves or enters the system? I ask this with regard to question 8.101e, which is as follows:

E. How much enthalpy is exchanged, and does it leave or enter the system?
The answer is -3.0 kJ.

Hey,
This means that energy is released in terms of heat.

To add on, if the standard reaction enthalpy for a certain rxn is negative, that means that the rxn is exothermic (indicating that heat is released, or that energy leaves the system.) To contrast, if the standard reaction enthalpy for the rxn is positive, that means that the rxn is endothermic (indicating that energy enters the system)
