states of reactants and products

Postby Deepika Pugalenthi 1A » Sat Jan 26, 2019 4:30 pm

When calculating the net delta H using Hess's method, is it required that all the reactants and products be in the same state (liquid, gas, solid)?

Nope! Just make sure that if you are canceling things out, that they are the same state.

In the lecture, he said that since reactants and product can be different states and reactions can occur at different pressure, the enthalpy of a reaction can be different.
