Just as with any other problem it is good to have more than one way to solve it. That being said, the information you are given will dictate which one of the three options you can or cannot use. For example if you are only given the total Delta H of the reactions you would have to use the first method. If you do have enough to choose whichever one you want you can also consider the fact that the second method that we went over is not as accurate as the first method. I believe the one that is not as accurate is the bond enthalpy method.

Yes, Dr.Lavelle mentioned that method 2, the bond enthalpy method, is the least accurate because it uses averages from many different molecules.

you can predict enthalpies with different information. i.e. if you are given different information to know which method to use in order to solve for the answer..
