How do we determine which bonds are broken and formed using bond enthalpies?

You can determine which bonds are broken and formed when you look at the molecules in a reaction equation. When molecules have changed, pay attention to what those molecules would look like and which bonds are no longer present or which ones have formed. It may help to draw out rough structures for the reactants and products in order to see which bonds are new and which ones have broken.
