How exactly does one use bond enthalpies?

We use the bond enthalpy to calculate delta H.

This is the equation to find delta H and gives the change in enthalpy for the reaction.
ΔH= (energy needed to break the reactant bonds) - (energy released by forming the product bonds)

Do we use bond enthalpy for 8.51 in the 6th edition? I'm having a hard time with the Lewis structure, and the solution manual doesn't explicitly state that they used the bond enthalpies

Return to “Reaction Enthalpies (e.g., Using Hess’s Law, Bond Enthalpies, Standard Enthalpies of Formation)”
