Example in class

Postby kanikubari » Sun Feb 03, 2019 9:50 pm

Can someone explain how he solved the example in class?
An exothermic reaction occurs in an open beaker producing net 8 moles of gas at 25C, what is the change in internal energy?
I mostly want to know how to set up the equation?

He solved this example using the equation
Δu=ΔH-PΔV=ΔH-ΔnRT (assuming P=1 atm)

Δu=(-50kJ)- (8 mol)(8.3124)(298K)
Δu=-50kJ-(-20kJ)
Δu=-70kJ
