### Delta U

What does delta u stand for and how do you calculate for it?

### Re: Delta U

Delta U stands for the change in internal energy of the system. Delta u = q (heat) + w(work). The units are in joules!

### Re: Delta U

delta U is the change in internal energy
You calculate it with delta U = q+w, where q = heat and w = work.

### Re: Delta U

Another popular unit the book uses for delta U or internal energy is kilojoules (kJ).

Also, make sure to include the sign unless specified not to.

### Re: Delta U

When there is no expansion or compression, which is work, we can say that Delta U is equal to the q value.

### Re: Delta U

Delta U is the internal energy of the system/reaction, or the total store of energy in a system. One way delta U can be calculated is by subtracting the internal energy of the initial system from the internal energy of the final system.
