Why is bond formation exothermic?

Bond formation is exothermic because when two molecules are joined together it is increasing stability, and the system is losing energy that gets released.

When forming a bond, the system loses energy, and because of the decrease in energy, it must have been released, making it exothermic.

Bonds are formed to increase stability. Thus, when they are formed, the system loses energy in order for stability to increase. This energy lost exothermically is usually heat.

When bonds form, they become more stable, which means they release energy.

When bonds are formed they become more stable and therefore release energy.

When bonds form, you have an exothermic process.
When bonds break, you have an endothermic process.

Forming bonds is usually is the most stable form of the molecules; which is why energy is released when the bonds form. However I'm pretty sure there are a few very rare cases when bond formation is more unstable, in which case it would be endothermic.

Forming bonds is exothermic because it releases energy, while breaking bonds requires an input of energy so it is endothermic.
