q vs H

Postby 805329408 » Sun Feb 02, 2020 10:09 pm

When given the term, "heat transfer" is this referring to q or H?

The amount of heat transferred should be a value for H, but its effect on a substance might be measured with respect to volume of said substance. Only then does it become associated with q

Are deltaH and q interchangeable?

q refers to heat transfer, while H refers to change in enthalpy (the total potential energy of a system).

At constant pressure, qp = deltaH. Otherwise, they are not interchangeable.

How do delta H and q relate if pressure isn't constant? Is there a formula?
