Either should be acceptable. The problem will most likely specify whether or not your answer should be in J or kJ

Yeah, both are okay. Usually, you would just match the units that the problem gives or use J and scientific notation if the answer is large.

Both are probably acceptable for the final answer but we may have to convert in order to do the calculations because only certain units are compatible with certain constants or values (like heat capacity)
