text problem 4J.7

when finding the of the reaction is oxygen not included because it is a gas? Are gases never included in enthalpy formations? Or am I just misinterpreting the solution manual's omission of oxygen in the enthalpy formation equation?

they also omit oxygen from the calculation of but not from the calculation of

I believe it is omitted because it is in its most stable state
