What is enthalpy conceptually

Postby Sidharth Paparaju 3B » Sat Jan 22, 2022 12:18 am

Can somebody explain what enthalpy is conceptually? Is it total energy? Because I know that the book says that there is another term for total energy. And I think its different from thermal energy.

Enthalpy is heat.

Energy is heat and work.

I will discuss enthalpy, work, and total energy in class in detail.

We use enthalpy to measure energy in a thermodynamic system. While energy equals heat + work, the quantity of enthalpy equals the total content of heat in a thermodynamic system (enthalpy equals internal heat plus the product of pressure and volume).
