delta Hc

Postby Jenna 1G » Sat Jan 22, 2022 10:59 pm

I was wondering why delta Hc is the same thing as delta H, my understanding is that delta Hc is the change of enthalpy of the combustion reaction, but how are they related?

Hi,

Delta Hc (otherwise known as heat of combustion) is essentially the same thing as Delta H (enthalpy of rxn). The subscript 'c' just means that it is the change in enthalpy specifically for combustion reactions.

Hope this helps.

You are correct. DeltaHc is simply just a more specific for combustion reactions, which you can tell from the chemical equation as hydrocarbon+O2--->H20+C02. DeltaH is the standard enthalpy of formation for all reactions in general.

They are the same thing except the c in Hc is just to specify that it is for combustion reactions. DeltaH is enthalpy for all reactions.

They denote the same thing, it's just that the subscript "c" in delta Hc indicates that it's a change in enthalpy in combustion reactions.

They are the same thing, but Hc just means that the enthalpy for a combustion reaction.
