Bond Enthalpy

For bond enthalpies, would finding the sum of ALL bonds for the products and reactants give you the same result as finding the sum of ONLY the bonds that broke or formed in a reaction?

Yes, Dr. Lavelle said that there are equations you can use if calculating all of the bonds instead of just the ones broken and reformed. I believe he wanted us to do it the second way because it makes more sense conceptually, and it will be easier to calculate more complicated organic molecules as time goes on.
