Achieve HW 3/4 Q7

Postby Aishwarya Vadivel 2F » Sat Feb 04, 2023 4:46 pm

Hi! I was working through the homework and didn't know where to start for question 7 of the week 3/4 problems. How would you use the standard enthalpy of formation values to find the standard enthalpy change for a reaction?

Hi, I would be happy to help! In this problem we are being asked to use the second method we were taught in class. Looking up the standard enthalpies will show us the change in the reaction because we are finding the energy that is absorbed through the breaking of certain bonds in the reaction (positive) and released through the forming of certain bonds in the reaction (negative). This would give the change in enthalpy in the reaction. Hope this helps! Also don't forget to account for the moles given in the reaction :)
