Mathematically relating DeltaH with DeltaU = q+w

Postby OhSun Kang 1G » Sun Feb 05, 2023 2:49 pm

How could we mathematically express the work done by a system as a function of the change in enthalpy, internal energy, and heat?

Hi! You can change the equation to be in terms of w and then substitute in change of enthalpy for heat if the pressure is constant.

When P is constant, deltaU = q + w = deltaH + w, so we can rearrange this to solve for w like: w = deltaU - deltaH.
