Bond Strength's affect on Enthalpy

Postby Reynaldo Fernandez 3L » Sun Feb 05, 2023 11:37 pm

How does the bond strength affect the change in enthalpy of a reaction? And also, how does the bond being a single, double, or triple bond affect the change in enthalpy of the reaction?

Stronger bonds are correlated to higher enthalpies since it takes more energy to break the bond.

I'll answer the second part. Double and triple bonds are stronger, thus it takes more energy to break the bonds. Therefore there will be a greater change in enthalpy with greater number of bonds.
