Hess's Law

Postby SohelaBedi1E » Sun Feb 05, 2023 11:45 pm

How does Hess's Law apply differently with K and H?

Hess's Law simply states that enthalpy changes are additive, so that in a multistep reaction, the change in enthalpies of each step can be added to find the total enthalpy change. Enthalpy is denoted by the constant H. If you are referring K as in the equilibrium constant, I don't think that that is involved in Hess's law.

Hess's law does not apply to K but it applies to H where it changes the enthalpy.

Hess's law shows that you add enthalpy when you are combining equations of reactions.

I think you are misunderstanding how k changes when you combine equations of reactions. Enthalpy change is added, K is multiplied

hi,
Hess's law does not actually affect K
