Calorimeters Example

Postby Mya Majewski 1L » Tue Jan 19, 2016 11:42 pm

Can someone go over the difference between the two calorimeters that Lavelle explained in class?

A coffee calorimeter is one that is open to the atmosphere and is therefore a constant pressure system. The heat transferred would be equal to the enthalpy. A bomb calorimeter is one that is rigid and enclosed and is therefore a constant volume system. The heat transferred would be equal to the internal energy.
