what does it mean when a question gives you the standard enthalpy of combustion? what does it tell you?

I believe the main thing you may need to do, if anything, is write out a equation where the compound they give you mixes with O2 to make CO2 and H2O. That is not always necessary though. But other than that, there really isn't any difference in how you find this standard enthalpy in comparison to finding another type.
