First Law of Thermodynamics

Postby Colette Ussery 3L » Fri Mar 17, 2017 8:54 pm

Is it important to know the first law of thermodynamics? How would it be used in a question?

The first law of thermodynamics is used in the sample quiz that you have for Quiz 1 (regarding the internal energy U after x years), as well as on the first midterm. The first law of thermodynamics can be used in reference to calorimetry, determining the work of a system, the conditions for isothermal processes, and so much more. Any calorimetry practice question uses the first law of thermodynamics because it requires a basic understanding of the relationship between q and w under different conditions.
