Adiabatic and diathermic walls
I read in the textbook about adiabatic and diathermic walls, how would we use this information in our calculations?

Re: Adiabatic and diathermic walls
I don’t think this factors into our calculations, it seems more like a conceptual thing to understand about different systems

Re: Adiabatic and diathermic walls
For a system with an adiabatic wall, there is no heat or substance exchange. Only work can be done to change the internal energy. On the other hand, for a system with a diathermic wall, there is only heat exchange. I believe that we only need to understand the concepts of these two terms. More specific understanding is required in physics courses.
Hope this helps!

I think we only need to learn these terms to identify if systems are closed, open, or isolated (like in 6th edition 8.1)

Its more conceptual than something which we would need to know how to calculate
