What is the difference between and and in which situations would I use them?

The equations are used for the same thing where q = mCT is used to find the heat of a particular substance with a mass, change in temperature, and specific heat capacity. The only difference is in a bomb calorimeter the mass is not that relevant for finding q so you can negate it and just use q (calorimeter) = C(calorimeter)T
