Homework Question 4A.3

Postby MAC 4G » Mon Jan 27, 2020 12:02 am

When I was working on this question: Air in a bicycle pump is compressed by pushing in the handle. If the inner diameter of the pump is 3.0 cm and the pump is depressed 20 cm with a pressure of 2.00 atm. Part c) What is the change in internal energy of the system?

I thought that it would be equal to the work that I found in part a because there is no change other than the change in volume, but the answer key at the back of the book says that it is 8J. Can someone please explain why this is so or if this an error in the textbook?

I think this is an error in the textbook.
The answer that I got for part C for question 4A.3 was 28 Joules which is the answer found in part A of the question since there is no change other than the change in volume.
