Can someone explain the difference between intensive vs extensive properties?

well,heat capacity is an extensive property because it depends on the amount of substance. If we divide the heat capacity by the amount of substance, it becomes an intensive property.

State properties don't really take into account the "path" of how the substance was prepared (like altitude, pressure, volume, temperature). I think you mean to ask about the difference between intensive and extensive properties. Intensive properties don't depend on the amount of the substance that is present (ex: specific heat capacity, molar heat capacity) but extensive properties do change with the amount of substance present (ex: heat capacity).
