Closed Systems
What were the ways that a closed system can be changed? Was it only by changing the temperature and/or volume?

Re: Closed Systems
Since closed systems do not allow flow of matter but do allow flow of energy, you are correct that they can be changed via changes in temperature and pressure. I hope this helps!

Yes, you are right. For the volume specifically, you are either doing work on the system or the system is doing work on the surrounding.

Re: Closed Systems
A closed system can only be changed by a change to pressure or volume. In a closed system no energy or matter can leave the system.

Yes, a closed system can be changed by changing temperature (heating or cooling), pressure, or volume. For example if you have mercury in a thermometer, outside temperature will cause a change in energy of the system.

Re: Closed Systems
Closed systems can be changed by changing either the temperature, pressure, or volume of the given closed system. No matter can flow in and/or out of a closed system, but energy can still be transfered between the system and its surroundings.

Okay! That's what I thought. I know it was a simple question but I wanted to make sure. Thanks!

Re: Closed Systems
Probably temperature, volume, and pressure since we can only change the "energy" part of the system.

Re: Closed Systems
a closed system has inflows and outflows of energy and that can be affected by temperature, pressure, and volume.

A closed system can have changes that do not affect the amount of "stuff" that is within it's container.
The volume and pressure and have an effect on the system, so long as the amount of matter is not disturbed, as it is closed.

Re: Closed Systems
A closed system can only be changed by temperature, pressure, or volume. In a closed system, neither reactants or products can enter or escape, but the transfer of energy is allowed.

Re: Closed Systems
Closed systems will block the transfer of matter in and out of the system, but still permits the transfer of energy inside and outside of the system.

Re: Closed Systems
Energy cannot leave in a closed system, so only temperature or pressure can change.
