Calorimeter

Postby Alice Chang 2H » Sun Feb 02, 2020 4:14 pm

Are there different types of calorimeters? What were the basic ideas behind the experiments that use these types of calorimeters?

A bomb calorimeter is completely sealed and insulated, making it an isolated system. It maintains a constant volume.
A constant pressure calorimeter gives enthalpy values.

There are adiabatic calorimeters, oxygen bomb calorimeters, and differential scanning calorimeters (DSC). But in this class I’m pretty sure we focus on bomb calorimeters.

From lecture, we talked about a bomb calorimeter which is an isolated system and insulation, and also an open calorimeter, and adiabatic calorimeters as well.

Can someone please explain what Dr. Lavelle was showing through his diagrams of Calorimeters?

I don't remember Dr. Lavelle mentioning adiabatic calorimeters, can you explain what those are and their importance?
