The first one is used when the specific heat is given in terms of J/K/mol(molar specific heat).

The first one is for when you're given C as the molar heat capacity. The second one is for when you're given C as the specific heat capacity.

The first one is dealing with the molar heat capacity (indicated by the n variable), while the second one is used with specific heat capacity.
