Exothermic rxns and heat

Postby Fdonovan 3D » Mon Mar 16, 2020 12:25 am

For exothermic reactions is the value of q negative or positive?

Exothermic reactions produce heat, meaning heat flows from the system to the surrounding so q has to be negative to denote this.

q would be negative because heat is flowing out of the system.

Q is negative as heat is being released.

q is negative, indicating that it's released in an exothermic reaction. It's the opposite in an endothermic reaction.

q is negative in an endothermic reaction and positive in an exothermic reaction

Q is negative in an exothermic reaction.
