Week 3/4 Hw #9

Postby Jada Dawson » Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:07 pm

Hi,
If you combine 290.0 mL of water at 25.00 ∘C and 100.0 mL of water at 95.00 ∘C, what is the final temperature of the mixture? Use 1.00 g/mL as the density of water.

I did q=-q and plugged in (290g)(4.184 J/g C)(Tfinal-25C)= -(100g)(4.184 J/gC)(Tfinal-95C) and ended up getting -11.84C but it was wrong. I don't know where I calculated wrong can someone clarify that this is the correct setup?

Hello! The final temperature should definitely be within the range of 25 and 95 degrees and not negative. Try checking if you got the signs right when expanding the brackets and rearranging the equations because I think the equation you wrote should be right

Hi there!
I used pretty much the same set up to solve for the problem so I'm assuming something just went wrong in your calculations as opposed to your problem solving method!
