Heat Capacities

Postby Anika Scott 3A » Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:30 pm

Are the specific heat values typically given or do we need to memorize the various values?

I would say that its good to know the specific heat of water, which we know is 4.184. Overall, I would say we don't need to memorize all of them because every substance ever has a specific heat and that would be very complicated and tedious. Just know that water has a high specific heat and metals tend to have lower specific heats due to conductivity.

I don't think you need to memorize them, as they'll probably be given in the problem. Since water is used so often, it would be beneficial to memorize this one. With the many problems we do, it'll be difficult to not have the specific heat for water memorized anyway!

I believe that they will always be given values.
