Homework 8.31

This question asks, "Find the heat released by 5.025 g of Kr(g) at0.400 atm as it cools from 97.6 C to 25.0 C at (a) constant pressure and (b) constant volume. Assume that krypton behaves as an ideal gas." In the solution to this problem, the molar heat capacity is not calculated but is used to solve the problem. Am I expected to look this value up in a table? If I am supposed to calculate it myself, how do I do this?

The heat capacity of monatomic ideal gas need to be memorized. Cv = 3/2 R and Cp = 5/2 R

^Will we need to memorize the heat capacities of linear and nonlinear molecules as well?

Do we also have to know the derivation or just memorize them as they are?

The solutions manual includes 20.8 J*mol^-1*C^-1 in the calculation for this solution; where does this value come from?
