Homework 4D.3

Postby AndresElizarraras 2A » Mon Jan 30, 2023 11:09 pm

The question is "The reaction of 1.40 g of carbon monoxide with excess water vapor to produce carbon dioxide and hydrogen gases in a bomb calorimeter causes the temperature of the calorimeter assembly to rise from 22.113 8C to 22.799 8C. The calorimeter assembly is known to have a total heat capacity (calorimeter constant) of 3.00 kJ?(8C)21. (a) Write a balanced equation for the reaction. (b) Calculate the internal energy change, DU, for the reaction of 1.00 mol CO(g)"

For part B in the solutions manual, we're at one point solving for "MW (CO) = 12.0107 g.mol–1 + 15.9994 g.mol–1 = 28.0101 g.mol–1"

Can anyone explain what "MW" is and where 12.0107g/mol and 15.999g/mol come from? It would greatly help my appreciate the rest of the problem. Thank you.

15.999 g/mol comes from oxygen's atomic mass and 12.0107 is carbon's atomic mass. MW stands for molecular mass/weight I believe.
