Clarification on Heat Capacity and Specific Heat Capacity

So from my understanding heat capacity depends on the size of a sample right, for example, if we had a small and large piece of ice the heat capacity for the larger one would be higher since heat capacity is mass times specific heat capacity. However, I am also confused on how to determine specific heat capacity or are they some values we have to memorize?

Heat capacity = kJ/°C
Molar heat capacity = kJ/mol °C
Specific heat (capacity) = kJ/g °C

Heat capacity = moles * molar heat capacity
Heat capacity = mass * specific heat capacity

Hi,
For specific heat capacity, each substance, e.g.water, has its own specific heat capacity that you need to memorize when doing calculation. This value does not change no matter how much water is given.

Hi,

Yes, heat capacity is an extensive property, meaning that the heat required to increase a substance by 1 degree Celsius depends on the amount of substance. However, specific heat capacity is an intensive property, so it is not dependent on the amount of substance. The specific heat capacities for water in its various states are listed on your periodic table.
