Heat Capacity of Ideal Gas

Postby kate 2h » Sun Feb 05, 2023 10:48 am

I just wanted to clarify something that was covered in discussion about the formula for the heat capacity of an ideal monatomic gas. The only energy that contributes to the internal energy is translational energy because a monatomic ion doesn't have bonds that contribute to vibrational and rotational energy? Is this the only formula we need to be familiar with or do we need to know how to find the internal energy of a diatomic or polyatomic gas?

Please see the formulas used in Chem 14B:

Monatomic ideal gas equation is given.
