biological acid

Postby 705913589 » Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:40 pm

Hi, can someone help me with this problem: The Ka of a biological acid, HA is 1.8 x 10-5. In the stomach, the pH is around two. Which state, neutral or ionized, is the biological acid at pH = 2? can you please explain the process/steps? Thank you!

First you need to find the pKa of the acid using pKa= -logKa. Then compare pKa to pH. If pKa > pH it will be more acidic. If pH > pKa it will be more basic.
