identifying conjugate acid-base pairs

Postby 705913589 » Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:58 pm

When identifying conjugate acid-base pairs what is an easier way of finding it? Would drawing the Lewis structure help or is it not necessary? thank you!

To easily identify conjugate acid-base pairs, just focus on the transfer of H⁺ (hydrogen ion). When a substance loses H⁺, it becomes a conjugate base, and when it gains H⁺, it becomes a conjugate acid. Lewis structures can be helpful but are not always necessary for this.
