SI Units/conversions memorization

Postby nick_pantoja_3G » Wed Oct 05, 2016 3:42 pm

Are there an easy ways to memorize the different conversions? I find it hard to remember the different conversions, like putting J in terms of Kg s and m. Etc.

I would come up with maybe an acronym to help remember the prefixes, otherwise just practice writing them out over and over until they are easy. The main prefixes I would remember for this class are:
giga-10^9
mega-10^6
kilo-10^3
UNIT (meter, ect.) 10^0
deci-10^-1
centi-10^-2
milli-10^-3
micro-10^-6
nano-10^-9
pico-10^-12

This does not help much in terms of remember the values of the scientific notation but to help with the order from largest to smallest try the acronym:
Good Models Know How Dunkin Donuts Can Make U Not Petit
Giga, Mega, Kilo, Hecto, Deca, Deci, Centi, Milli, Micro (symbol looks like a “U”), Nano, Pico
