kJ vs. J

kJ vs. J
Because kJ is an SI base unit, should we always assume that an answer should be in kJ versus J even if the given information in the question is given in J?

Answer in whichever is appropriate for the answer. For example if the answer is 28912J, it would probably be best to answer in kJ. J and kJ are basically the same units so no need to worry about the SI unit part.

If you are asking this in regards to quiz 1, the question specifies that the energies should be left in J so I'm assuming that it will specify if it want the answer in KJ. I have no idea if this will carry over to the midterm though so its best to pay attention to the practice questions we do in class and on practice exams to decide which is more appropriate.
