### Molar Mass

What's the difference between Molar Mass and Molecular Weight? Are the two terms used loosely?

### Re: Molar Mass

from what I know the molecular weight and molar mass have the same numbers but have different units. The molecular weight is in amu and the molar mass is in grams per mole...im not sure how to explain in detail the reasoning behind this, I hope someone else is able to.

### Re: Molar Mass

I think molecular weight and molar mass have different units because molecular weight comes from the total amount of the atomic mass in a molecule and molar mass is the amount of mass per mole of a molecule.

I confuse these two terms along with Molarity (M). Is there any way you guys distinguish these terms? Thank you in advance!

If i'm not mistaken, molar mass is just grams per mole while molarity is number of particles in a liter (moles per liter). And then as for the molar weight vs. molar mass, it is the same value just different units like said above :)

### Re: Molar Mass

Whenever I think about molar mass I always remember that molar mass is how many grams 1 mole of that substance would be. I.e., 1 mole of Carbon-12 is 12.01 grams.

Molecular weight is essentially the same thing as molar mass (as mentioned above) but instead uses amu.

All that really matters is that you look at the context of the question to understand what's being asked, and you'll figure it out. You can always use Dr. Lavelle's problem solving method as well!

Hope this helps :)

Molar mass is the mass per mole.
Molecular weight is different considering that it is a weight and not a mass. It's measurement is based on the gravitational pull.
Molarity is moles per liter or (moles of solute [n])/(volume of solution [v]).

### Re: Molar Mass

What kind of helps me remember the difference between molar mass and molecular weight is the molar mass is what the entire compound equals for example H20 would have a molar mass of 17.01 while the weight of lets say hydrogen would only be 1.01.
