Calcium Sulfide is CaS. There is not really a trick to naming this since you should just look at the valence electrons and see how many calciums and sulfurs you need to fulfill the valence ring. You want the compound to have 8 valence electrons and no negative or positive charge for ionic bonds.
Calcium sulfide is an ionic compound. You know this because it consists of a cation (calcium) and an anion (sulfide). Calcium as a 2+ charge and sulfide has a 2- charge. An ionic compound must have a net charge of 0, therefore you get CaS.
With calcium sulfide and it's chemical notation, you could recognize the bond between the two elements. The -ide contributes to the fact that it is indeed an ionic compound. Calcium has a charge of +2 and sulfur has a charge of -2; therefore, the notation would be CaS. The quickest way to figure it out would be to memorize and recognize the charge and naming rules!
There is no trick to memorizing and knowing how to write in molecular terms for cases such as Calcium Sulfide. It is something to either study or pick up. I was say the best way to know the name of compounds would be to learn the common polyatomic ions in groups according to the patterns in their name.
There is no trick to learning how to name compounds, however within organic and inorganic Chemistry the usual suspects will occur frequently such as Potassium Permanganate (KMnO4) and you should eventually be able to identify them with ease as long as you keep practicing!
